Manitoba Securities Commission issues warning about Ecovexco Investment Group
Winnipeg, MB (February 4, 2015) – The Manitoba Securities Commission (MSC) is warning the public to be aware of Ecovexco Investment Group, a company that has been advertising a “no risk” investment opportunity in Winnipeg newspapers.
Ecovexco Investment Group has placed advertisements that promise unrealistically high returns on investments in complex and high-risk markets. The company is purportedly operating out of North Carolina or the United Kingdom and is not registered to conduct business in Manitoba. Investors are urged to check the registration of any person or company offering investment products before choosing to invest by visiting recognizeinvestmentfraud.com.
“Checking the registration of anyone offering a securities product is something every investor should do before making a financial decision,” says Chris Besko, Acting Director of Legal and Enforcement for the Manitoba Securities Commission. “A bit of research into the people you are trusting with your money can go a long way toward avoiding a potentially dangerous investment fraud.”
The MSC advises all investors to keep the following tips in mind to prevent becoming a victim of investment fraud:
• Know the registration status of your financial adviser or firm
• Never send money to anyone you only know from an unsolicited phone call or email
• Never give out sensitive personal information online or over the phone
• Research an investment before making a commitment
• Report suspected scams to the MSC
Investors who believe that they have been approached by an investment fraud are encouraged to call the MSC tip line at 1-855-FRAUD-MB to file a complaint or speak with an investigator.
The Manitoba Securities Commission is a division of the Manitoba Financial Services Agency, a Special Operating Agency of the Government of Manitoba that protects investors and promotes fair and efficient capital markets throughout the province.
