Registration

Who Needs to Register

If you're in the business of trading or advising in securities or exchange contracts in the province, you must be registered with the MSC. Applicants must meet certain educational standards and capital requirements, and follow detailed conduct, solvency and reporting duties. MSC staff review financial reports, conduct on-site examinations and launch investigations when necessary.

The type of activities a firm or individual is permitted to carry out will determine their registration categories. For more information, please see Firm Categories of Registration and Individual Categories of Registration.

Exemptions

In some circumstances, registration exemptions may be available to certain firms or individuals. For more information, please see Exemptions from the Requirements to Register.

If you are unsure about whether you need to register or qualify for an exemption, please seek professional guidance. The Manitoba Securities Commission is a regulatory agency and cannot provide legal or professional advice.
